Josie's Peculiar Findings

Asian Kung Fu-Generation (which I proudly admit am a Fangirl) are bringing Nano-Mugen Fes. back!

Sadly, this only works for the cool kids living in Japan or traveling there. It’s a two day festival (7/20-7/21) with bands from the U.S, Japan, and U.K.

The rad line up is:

Asaian Kung Fu-Geneartion (duh)

Ash (who are also co hosting the festival)

Playing July 20th:

  • Phantom Planet
  • Stereophonics
  • The Young Punx!
  • STRAIGHTENER
  • ANALOGFISH
  • 9mm Parabellum Bullet
  • Shugo Tokumaru

Playing July 21st:

  • HELLOGOODBYE
  • Third Eye Blind
  • ELLEGARDEN
  • Space Cowboy
  • ART-SCHOOL
  • SPECIAL OTHERS
  • 8otto

With Hellogoodbye, Ellegarden and Space Cowboy playing it’s as if they are intentionally trying to break my already fragile heart.

Check It Out!!!

Peace Out,

So today, I found Futureme.org. It reminds me of PostSecret. You know where you write your secrets on a postcard and they post it on their website. It also happens to be confidential. Except this is like a time capsule in a letter. You write what you have to say and then it will be send to you (or another person) later on in the future. You can select the date when the email will be sent. It’s a rad site. I had the honor of reading many people’s letters. Some where sad but others they had hope in the end that everything would be better. I wrote one for myself that just made me all excited.

Check it out now: Futureme.org or PostSecret.blogspot.com

If you check my iPod touch (which I hate btw) it would probably be difficult to recognize half the artists on it. Most of it artists are anarchists bands such as Crass, 80’s new wave bands like New Order and The B-52’s, and of course my favorite-Japanese Rock music (most which have appeared as theme songs for popular anime shows). So what’s the deal with De Novo Dahl? Well for starters, I’ve been on their MySpace page for the past three days, which has been taking up all my Japanese Rock music listening time. Their songs make me wanna shimmy in my underwear when no one’s home.

Also, Serai Zaffiro (the only female in the group and a cutie too!) plays the omnichord. WTF is an omnichord? I had no idea but after checking my favorite site Wikipedia I so want to play it. Yea, instead of getting a Keytar (AND THAT IS NOT LAME!) I’m going to get an omnichord. I’ll look so fucking awesome with and omnichord besides how often do you get say, “I play the omnichord”? It sounds better then “I play the Keytar. Hey, stop laughing! It’s a very serious musical instrument!”

Yea very difficult to work with that one.

If you see the music video for the song Shout it makes you go ‘aww’ no deep hidden meaning in this music video. It’s cute and simple and you want to jump in and dance against that colorful balloon covered wall. Heartbreaker (which is on my BFF’s MySpace page) is another good song. A notable lyric “I accept the challenge that you’re sending with your smile” reminds me of the dances you see in old 80’s and 70’s movies where the boys are one side of the gym and the girls on the other. Then the cute nerdy girl smiles at the cute nerdy boy. Sorry got carried away there. Heartbreaker inspired a script I’m working on. The melody and lyrics just make you want to sing along with lead singer Joel while walking outside to get your mail. For some reason every song reminds me of two cute nerds falling in love in computer tech class.

My favorite song by De Novo Dahl has to be Be Your Man. Reminds me of a harder version of surfer rock meets electronic. If they make a music video for this song, it should take place on a beach with a bunch of 50’s girls raving. Strange thing I notice is that every song sounds different to me. Well obviously, it’s supposed to sound different but it seems like every song is suppose to be in a different genre of music. Shout sounds like an indie pop song. Heartbreaker sounds like a dancing ballad and the beginning of Shakedown sounds like a 70’s disco song. Perhaps that’s the genius of De Novo Dahl? Make every song sound so different but keeps you dancing.

So kudos to De Novo Dahl. They go on the Coolness wall. The only wall in my room where it’s difficult to get your picture on. So far the only members are Lita Ford, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Hot Hot Heat, Motley Crue and Woody Allen. I so need to take a picture of that wall.

Congrats, De Novo Dahl for making music that stops Josie from listening to Japanese Rock. That’s pretty powerful since Josie loves her Japanese Rock.

Anyone want to give me money so I can buy the album? Never mind I’ll just borrow it from Amanda. If she lets me that is.

XOXO

Josie

Apparently the rumors where true. Dragonball is going live action.

Okay I’ve seen the first Death Note movie in Live Action and it was pretty good. I wouldn’t have cared if the live action movie sucked or not. But I grew up watching Dragonball Z (I didn’t watch Dragonball until I was 13). I remember how I would run home after school just to catch it on Toonami (and Sailor Moon). This show stole my childhood. I could have been playing outside getting some exercise or studying for my future. Instead I was inside watching Goku go head to head against Freeza. Watching Gohan training to be a Super Saiyan. I even felt sympathy for Android #18 when she was absorb by Cell and how Kuririn was in love with her. So you can understand how attached I am to this anime right? If anyone was to ask me what I can remember the most from my childhood is television. Every show I watched, every fad I was into (pogs, pokemon, digimon, gameboy color, fresh prince, spice girls, hell even Britney Spears was my idol) I was into it. Dragonball Z was just a good portion of it.

Just so we’re clear the movie isn’t based on Dragonball Z but on Dragonball the first anime. DBZ is the sequel and Dragonball GT is the third series (but I think it sucked). Now that we got that covered let’s move on to the actors. So it worries me that Justin Chatwin (Weeds, War of the Worlds, The Invisible) is playing Goku and James Marsters (Smallville, P.S. I love You) is playing Piccolo. Emmy Rossum(Phantom of the Opera) will be playing Bulma, but I’m not so worried about her. I think she would look cute with blue hair and hopefully nail Bulma’s personality. Jamie Chung will play Chi-Chi Goku’s future wife and future mother of Gohan and Goten. I can’t really form an opinion of her acting skills since i have never seen her act in any of her guest appearances on television shows (Veronica Mars, Days of our Lives, CSI:NY) but she is from the Real World. I never watched the Real World (I don’t enjoy reality shows) but she must be good if she’s landing acting jobs (even if they are small roles).

It’s not that I have a problem with Chatwin and Marsters playing the two main characters in the movie it’s just well…I was expecting the movie to be in Japanese and played by Asian actors. I only assumed since it was an anime that Japanese studios would handle making the movie and the U.S. would be lucky to have it subbed and released on DVD. Well I was wrong and in August (if they don’t change the date) when I watch the movie I’ll give a full review.

I’ll let you form your own opinion on these actors and the outcome of this movie. In the mean time I’m going to take a nap, just knowing that Dragonball is being made into live action is giving me a headache.

Enjoy this fan made video. And just pretend you know Japanese.

Peace

Josie

How much are you willing to bet that video games and television will be blamed? I’ll start at $5.

At Starbucks I usually get a Tall Soy White Chocolate Mocha with no whip. If I’m on the go or low on cash I’ll get a regular coffee. Sometimes I’ll splurge and get a Soy Grande Dolce Cinnamon Latte or a Venti Frappachino. So if McDonald’s starts selling Soy Lattes with their happy meals how would coffee addicts react? Usually at my Starbucks if you get there between 7:20-8:40 there is a long line and you’ll have to wait at least 10 minutes for your order. But if i can get breakfast and a good latte faster and cheaper then Starbucks I might go there. My loyalty lies with Starbucks but how can I resist good coffee and an egg mcmuffin when I only have ten minutes to run to school? Luckily for Starbucks (and for my health) there is no McDonald’s near my house and I’m not willing to walk an extra twenty minutes for them.

Here’s the article

Of course I’m very excited to see this great show return to the airwaves and am surprised by [as] new lineup. Here’s a summary from Wikipedia.

Forty years prior to the events of the series, disaster struck.[2] The world was turned into a vast desert wasteland and the survivors were left without memories. The story takes place in Paradigm City, a corporate police state run by the Paradigm Corporation.[3] The town is recognized for its geodesic domes, a giant structure that houses the richer citizens and segregates the poor to living outside the domes.

The Big O deals with the nature of memories. A memory is a record stored in the brain of an organism, but in Paradigm City memories can mean so much more.[4] “Memories” (メモリー Memorī?) embody the lost knowledge of its residents, and can take the form of records from before the Event,[5] forgotten artifacts from the previous era or manifest themselves as recollection, hallucinations and recurring dreams.[6]

The first half of the series is episodic. Each Act revolves around different citizens of Paradigm dealing with the resurgence of lost Memories and how they manage to go on living without knowledge of what did or did not happen. The final episodes introduce elements that come into play during season two like the existence of people outside of Paradigm City, the nature of the Cataclysm that destroyed the world and the “Power of God wielded by the hand of man.”

The second season takes an arc-based approach. Instead of self-contained stories like in season one, season two features a continuous storyline. This season makes Alex Rosewater, CEO of the Paradigm Corporation, a direct antagonist to The Negotiator and introduces The Union, agents of a foreign power working within Paradigm.

The animation is fantastic also. Lita Ford gives this a big “Tail up”. Don’t miss out on it. Also just for the purpose of nostalgia here’s the original Adultswim promos.

I’m a huge Starbucks junkie. If there was a rehab for Starbucks lovers I would be the first one there. So when I read this little diddy I was expecting some cute story about how awesome and kind Starbucks is and why we should all love it. Instead it made me think of Microsoft- the evil corporation that everyone hates but still uses because it’s easier then a Mac. At the end of the article Starbucks comes out sounding like the evil guy who is not really evil just misunderstood. On the plus side Starbucks is better then Wal-Mart. ;)
